NORWICH RAPIST JAILED FOR DRUNKEN ATTACK
A Norwich man has been sentenced to eight years and seven months in prison after he admitted raping a 22-year-old who passed out on his sofa.Phillip Marrison, who was considered an 'uncle figure' to the victim, was described in court as a 65-year-old chronic alcoholic who often had young people around to his flat for socializing.
The incident in question occurred between January 1 and May 1, 2009, when the victim went to Marrison's flat to clean and share a bottle of whisky.
The court heard that the victim woke up to find Marrison on top of her, using his weight to hold her hands down.
She described trying to tell him 'no', but her voice was not working, and she felt frozen but was shaking her head.
The victim confided in a friend afterward but chose not to go to the police at the time, fearing disbelief.
It was only years later, when she saw Marrison in the street with her child, that she felt able to contact authorities.
Marrison, who was already serving time for an attempted arson and assault in 2011, refuted claims of his 'uncle' role and was sentenced after pleading guilty, with the judge citing his age, health, and previous offences as factors.
