WELLINGBOROUGH MEN PHILIP CROCKETT AND WILLIAM LOADS SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wellingborough, two men, Philip Crockett, aged 30, and William Loads, aged 29, have been sentenced to a combined total of 22 years in prison for their involvement in the sexual abuse of a young girl. The sentencing took place last week at Northampton Crown Court, bringing to a close a case that revealed the extent of their heinous actions and the disturbing evidence uncovered during the investigation.

The abuse was brought to light earlier this year in January, when Loads showed his parents a text message he had received from Crockett. This seemingly innocuous act led Loads’ parents to contact a family friend who was employed by the police. Recognizing the potential severity of the situation, the police were promptly alerted, initiating a thorough investigation into the allegations.

Following their arrest, law enforcement officials conducted searches of the suspects’ electronic devices. During these searches, officers discovered at least 25 child abuse images on Loads’ mobile phone and a staggering 358 images on Crockett’s computer. Among these images, at least one was classified in the most serious category, indicating the severity of the material involved.

In court proceedings held in July, Crockett, who resides on Guillemot Lane in Wellingborough, admitted to two counts of sexually assaulting a female under the age of 13. Meanwhile, Loads, who lives on Bell Court in Wellingborough, was described as having “significant cognitive impairment,” which made him particularly vulnerable. He admitted to one count of sexually assaulting a female under 13. Both men’s admissions of guilt marked a significant step in the legal process.

Further charges were brought against Crockett, who faced nine counts related to possessing or creating indecent images of children. Loads was also charged with five similar counts. Both defendants pleaded guilty to all charges, acknowledging their involvement in these grave offenses.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Rupert Mayo addressed the court, highlighting the troubling backgrounds of both men. The judge noted that the pair had reportedly experienced troubled childhoods, but emphasized that their collaboration in abusing the young girl was particularly alarming. Judge Mayo described the case as “an alarming and depraved case where you used a girl as a sexual commodity.” He expressed concern over the lasting emotional damage inflicted upon the victim, warning that such trauma would likely manifest in her later life.

As part of their sentences, Crockett was sentenced to 14 years in prison, with an extended license period of six additional years. Loads received an eight-year sentence. Both men will be required to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift action in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and abuse.
