PETER WARBURTON: SERIAL SEX OFFENDER FROM DENBIGH, NORWICH, AND RHYL SENTENCED TO YEARS IN PRISON
In a case that has sent shockwaves through North Wales and Norfolk, Peter Warburton, aged 49, has been convicted of multiple sexual offenses involving young girls, leading to a lengthy and indeterminate prison sentence. The proceedings took place at Mold Crown Court, where Warburton admitted to seven separate assaults, and the court mandated that he remain incarcerated until deemed safe for release.Warburton’s criminal history is extensive and troubling. It was revealed during the trial that he had previously resided in Bryn Seion, Denbigh, and also in Rhyl, North Wales. His past crimes include a serious conviction for raping and sexually assaulting a teenage prostitute in Manchester, which resulted in an eight-year prison sentence. Despite serving time, Warburton was on parole when he committed further sex offenses against young girls in the 1990s, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior that persisted over many years.
The recent incident that brought Warburton back into the spotlight occurred in July 2005 in Norwich. He was out in the city when he encountered a teenage girl who was intoxicated and had become separated from her friends. Warburton, who was also intoxicated at the time, assaulted the girl. Following the attack, he fled the scene, prompting a significant police investigation. Norfolk Police launched a media appeal to locate him, but he managed to evade immediate arrest.
However, the story took a different turn when Warburton returned to Rhyl. There, he confided in friends about his troubles, which eventually led to his arrest. It was during this period that authorities uncovered his involvement in a series of sexual offenses committed against young girls in North Wales during the 1990s. The evidence was overwhelming, and Warburton was charged accordingly.
On Thursday, the court sentenced Warburton to nine years in prison for six counts of indecent assault against young girls in North Wales. Additionally, Judge John Rogers QC imposed an indeterminate sentence for the assault in Norwich, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. The judge stated that Warburton would be required to serve a minimum of three years before he could seek parole, but he warned that he would not be released for many years, given the risk he posed.
Furthermore, Warburton is mandated to register as a sex offender for life, and he remains subject to recall to prison for the rest of his life if deemed necessary for public safety. Judge Rogers explicitly told him, “You constitute a very real risk to young teenage females,” underscoring the ongoing threat he poses to the community. The court’s decision reflects a firm stance on protecting vulnerable individuals from repeat offenders like Warburton, whose criminal conduct has spanned over a decade and across multiple locations.
