PETER JONES FROM STOCKPORT JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE OFFENSES AFTER OFFERING TISSUE TO CHILD

In March 2017, Peter Jones, an 80-year-old man from Stockport, was sentenced to prison for a disturbing incident involving a young child, which highlighted his long history of sexual offenses spanning over five decades. The case drew significant attention due to Jones's repeated breaches of legal restrictions designed to protect children from harm.

On this occasion, Jones was observed on a bus in Stockport, Greater Manchester, where he sat next to a five-year-old girl who was accompanied by her father. Despite being under a strict sexual harm prevention order, which explicitly prohibited any contact with children, Jones attempted to pass a tissue to the crying girl not once but twice. His actions were seen as a clear violation of the court-mandated restrictions meant to prevent him from reoffending or causing harm.

Jones's behavior did not stop there. He was wearing an electronic tag on his leg, a device used to monitor his movements and ensure compliance with the court's orders. His breach was promptly reported, leading to his arrest shortly after the incident. The authorities had previously taken measures against him, including multiple incarcerations for various offenses involving children.

In addition to the recent breach, Jones has a notorious criminal record that includes previous convictions for inappropriate behavior towards minors. His past offenses include patting a two-year-old girl on the head, knocking on the window of a shop where a child was present, and attending a funfair, all of which raised concerns about his ongoing risk to children.

During the court proceedings, Jones admitted to breaching the sexual harm prevention order during the incident on the bus. The case was heard at Stockport Crown Court, where Judge Jinder Singh Boora sentenced him to 20 months in prison. Jones's criminal history is extensive, with 29 previous convictions. His offending behavior dates back to 1966 in Australia, and he has appeared in courts across the world for crimes against boys. Notably, last year, he received a nine-month sentence for damaging his electronic tag by wearing it while in the bath, further illustrating his disregard for legal restrictions and public safety.
