Dominic Jackson

Cambridge Stockport Sexual Abuser

June 2006 Pervert ex-doctor must pay damages A DEPRAVED former doctor living in Cambridge has agreed to pay damages to the woman he abused as a child. Dominic Jackson was described as “sick” by a judge at Manchester Crown Court after he admitted molesting the woman when she was only nine months old. The former GP was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the assault but was freed after just four weeks when the appeal court reduced his sentence to 12 months, suspended for two years. Jackson, who has a history of drink and opium abuse, claimed he had been possessed by the devil, it was said in court. The woman, now 23, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has won an undisclosed sum from the 54-year-old in an out-of-court settlement. She had previously slashed her wrists and taken 58 paracetamol tablets in a bid to kill herself. Her mother said Oxford-educated Jackson, had left her daughter “damaged”. She said: “The amount of damage he has done to my daughter is horrible. “It was not the amount of money, it was just her having a little bit of justice. “I say justice, but it was her feeling she did not want him to get off completely scot-free. “She suffers post traumatic stress disorder and depression. She has been battling with this for years. I hope this will give my daughter more closure because she has suffered immensely from what he has done to her.” Jackson, of Babraham Road, Cambridge, lives near Netherhall School and his victim’s mother has called for Megan’s Law to be brought to the UK. The law, introduced in the US nine years ago, forces the authorities to tell parents when a convicted paedophile moves to their area. Currently, in the UK, sex offenders must register their names and addresses with the police and inform them within 14 days if they move. But only headteachers, youth leaders and others who work with children are told where paedophiles live. The mother said: “He is a recidivist, a highly manipulative, extremely clever man and very plausible to people who trust him. “It really worries me the law does not protect children from Dominic Jackson.” Jackson was acquitted in March 1999 of 13 counts of rape, buggery and indecent assault against the same girl before the jury was told he had admitted separate charges of abusing the woman at a younger age in 1984. Her mother wants the law changed so juries are informed of a suspected paedophile’s previous convictions. Jackson practiced as a GP in the Stockport area of Greater Manchester during the 1980s but retired on health grounds before the trial. He was struck off the medical register by the General Medical Council in June 2000.
