PAUL TAYLOR AND HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN DERBYSHIRE
Paul Taylor, a 33-year-old resident of Meynell Street, Church Gresley in Derbyshire, was found to possess a disturbing collection of sexually explicit and abusive material involving children. The authorities uncovered these illicit files during a police investigation, revealing the extent of his involvement in viewing and possessing harmful content.
One particularly disturbing file, labeled 'Keep Out,' contained a variety of horrific videos depicting children being abused in a manner that was both graphic and deeply disturbing.
In addition to these videos, Taylor possessed hundreds of cartoon images that depicted similar acts, all of which contributed to the serious nature of his offenses.
The police executed a search warrant at Taylor’s home on February 17, 2021, during which they seized a mobile phone and a laptop.
Subsequent analysis of these devices uncovered the shocking material.
The images found in the 'Keep Out' folder included two videos classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of explicit content, which typically depicts adults engaged in sexual acts with underage children.
In addition, investigators discovered one Category B video, another classified as Category C, two images depicting extreme pornography, and a total of 625 prohibited images.
This large quantity of illicit images comprised cartoons or reenactments that simulated child abuse, illustrating the severity of the content.
Further investigation revealed that Taylor’s internet search history included terms related to underage images and bestiality.
When questioned by police, Taylor claimed to have “no idea what’s going on,” an explanation that was met with skepticism.
He admitted that the mobile phone used to access the material was his but responded with “no comment” when asked about the contents of the device.
During the court hearing at Derby Crown Court, prosecutors detailed the findings and outlined the serious nature of Taylor’s offenses.
Serena Varatharajah, representing the prosecution, emphasized that the images and videos found are associated with severe harm and exploitation of children.
Taylor pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possession of extreme pornography, and one count of possessing prohibited images.
Notably, he has no prior criminal record.
The judge, Shaun Smith KC, addressed the seriousness of Taylor’s conduct and the broader implications of viewing such material.
He highlighted that, although some might believe that merely viewing illegal images results in no direct harm, the reality is that the individuals depicted are profoundly victimized.
The judge stressed that such consumption perpetuates a cycle of abuse, noting, “The people in the images are being hurt and that is really serious.” He pointed out the contradiction in Taylor’s position, as he maintained a stable job while engaging in activities that could have led to a prison sentence.
To prevent future offenses and protect the public, Judge Smith imposed a comprehensive set of restrictions.
Taylor was sentenced to a three-year community order coupled with a five-year sexual harm prevention order, which bars him from deleting his internet browsing history.
He is also required to inform police of any social media accounts he uses or creates, including providing passwords.
Additionally, Taylor must register as a sex offender for five years, participate in a sex offender awareness course, and attend 45 rehabilitation sessions organized by the probation service.
This case underscores the ongoing concern regarding the proliferation of online child abuse images and the importance of rigorous law enforcement efforts to combat such crimes in Derbyshire and beyond.
