June 2022 Pervert bus driver looked at child abuse images ‘on a daily basis’ A pervert bus driver was found with 1,677 child abuse and animal images on his laptop and phone. When 60-year-old Paul Delaney’s laptop and iPhone were forensically examined, he was also found to have kept disgusting extreme abuse images involving animals. Liverpool Crown Court heard on Friday, June 10, that the discovery of his shameful activities cost him his job and long term relationship. A judge told Delaney that people who view such images encourage “others to continue their vile trade”. Delaney pleaded guilty to five offences including downloading indecent images of children in all three categories of seriousness between October 30, 2018 and September 1, 2020. The possession of extreme porn involved four images. Christopher Hopkins, prosecuting, said police, armed with a search warrant, raided the defendant’s home, then in Circular Road West, Norris Green, on September 3, 2020. Officers had received information that two email addresses linked to Delaney had been receiving child sexual abuse images. His electronic equipment was seized and examination revealed a total of 1,677 indecent photographs and videos. Judge David Aubrey QC, told Delaney, who has no previous convictions, that for about 700 days he had been “poring over” indecent images showing young children being abused. He said: “Which suggests to me that almost on a daily basis you would be browsing images that had been downloaded either on your laptop or phone. The images were sickening, they were depraved and I have no doubt that you were doing that because of a perverted sexual interest in young children.” Judge Aubrey said Delaney had probably looked at the images after returning home from his bus driving job and behind closed doors. The court heard the defendant now lives alone and has voluntarily sought counselling. Delaney, now of Lower Hall Street, St Helens, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and ordered to carry out 20 days rehabilitation activities. Judge Aubrey also imposed a ten year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for the same period.
