ST HELENS PAEDOPHILE NORMAN MEDLICOTT SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of St Helens, Norman Medlicott, a 60-year-old man, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 14 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving two young girls. The conviction followed a detailed trial at Liverpool Crown Court, where the jury heard disturbing accounts of Medlicott's repeated assaults spanning over a decade.

Medlicott was convicted of raping one girl on five separate occasions and attempting to rape her on another occasion, with the victim aged between 13 and 16 at the time of these offenses. Additionally, he was found guilty of sexually abusing a second girl, whom he indecently assaulted six times when she was between the ages of seven and 16, and raping her twice. The court heard that these heinous acts took place over a period from 1979 to 1994, highlighting a long history of predatory behavior.

The judge presiding over the case, Judge David Lynch, did not hold back in his condemnation of Medlicott. He described him as a “violent bully” and emphasized that he posed a significant danger to children, a statement that resonated with the severity of the crimes committed. The trial revealed that the victims came forward only after an incident in which Medlicott exposed himself to a four-year-old girl on May 1 of the previous year, which prompted further investigation.

He faced a total of 14 charges, including 14 counts of rape, seven counts of indecent assault, and one count of indecency with a child. After careful deliberation, the jury unanimously convicted him of six counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, six charges of indecent assault, and one count of indecency with a child. However, Medlicott maintained his innocence throughout the trial, pleading not guilty to all charges, and was acquitted of eight other counts.
