Serial paedophile sentenced to 14 years
An Orpington man has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of sexually abusing four young girls
Serial paedophile Patrick Barrie (71) of Arundel Drive, Orpington, pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of sexual abuse on a child, meaning that his victims had to re-live their ordeal by giving evidence at Croydon Crown court.
His evil crimes only came to light when one of his victims plucked up the courage to report him to police in 2013, encouraging three other victims to come forward.
The court heard how Barrie had committed gross indecent acts on each of his victims and that he repeatedly sexually assaulted them over a period of several years.
The youngest victim was just five-years-old when the abuse started, which continued until her early teens
Despite Barrie’s not guilty plea, the jury found him guilty on 16 seperate counts of gross indecency with a female child under 14 years old
The court was told that one victim suffered painful injuries for many years as a direct result of the abuse
Judge McKinnon sentenced Patrick Barrie to 14 years imprisonment and told him he must register as a sex offender for life.
