MICHAEL SUTTON AND HIS SHOCKING CHILDHOOD ABUSE IN DERBYSHIRE
A young man has come forward to describe how his formative years were devastatingly disrupted by a predatory sex offender from Derbyshire, Michael Sutton.The victim recounted enduring years of physical violence alongside repeated sexual assaults inflicted by Sutton, a man whose actions have left deep and lasting scars.
According to reports, Sutton physically abused the teenager by hitting him with a belt on multiple occasions, alongside the disturbing sexual abuse that spanned nearly a decade, from 2012 to 2020.
The severity and duration of this abuse have been described as profoundly damaging, destroying the innocence of the victim and causing long-term emotional trauma.
The grim details of Sutton’s criminal activities surfaced publicly after he was arrested in connection with an offence involving unlawfully taking a child, following an incident with another teenager in Nottinghamshire in February 2021.
It was during this investigation that authorities uncovered the extent of Sutton's offenses against the now adult victim.
In a heartfelt victim personal statement, the survivor shared the profound impact Sutton’s actions have had on his mental health and perception of trust.
He stated, “I don’t feel like I can trust anyone and I have felt like this since he started doing what he did to me.
I am always wary around new people and I know that is because of him.” The survivor expressed a painful realization that, as a child, he initially perceived Sutton’s abusive behaviors as normal.
It was only as he grew older that he recognized the wrongdoing.
Despite this awareness, he confided that he felt unable to report what was happening earlier, fearing disbelief or that no one would listen.
He added, “I will never be able to forgive him for what he did to me, he ruined my childhood.
I’ll never be able to forget what he did to me and this really upsets me.” His words underscore the lasting emotional toll taken by Sutton’s systematic abuse.
Sutton, who resides in Killamarsh, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault, sexual assault, child cruelty, and taking a child without lawful authority.
His case was brought before Nottingham Crown Court, where sentencing was carried out on January 25.
Sutton was sentenced to a total of four and a half years of imprisonment.
In addition to the custodial sentence, Sutton has been subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, aimed at restricting any future contact with his victim.
He is also under a restraining order for ten years, ensuring he remains separated from the individual he harmed.
Detective Constable Naomi Davies, part of the child investigation team, expressed her support and the impact of Sutton’s crimes.
She remarked, “The survivor in this case suffered years of abuse at the hands of Sutton, a predatory sex offender.
At a time when they should have been carefree and enjoying spending time with their friends and all the usual childhood fun, they were instead left feeling traumatised and hurt by Sutton’s evil actions.” She emphasized that while the physical and sexual abuse has ceased, the psychological effects may last for years.
“The nightmare never ends for the survivor, who will have to deal with the psychological effects of what happened to them for years to come.” Davies expressed satisfaction that Sutton is now incarcerated and highlighted the courage of the survivor, applauding their bravery in coming forward and their dignity throughout the legal process.
She urged others who may be suffering or have suffered abuse to seek help, assuring them that law enforcement’s specially trained officers are available to listen and support, regardless of when the abuse took place.
This case serves as a chilling reminder of the devastating impact of child abuse and the importance of taking decisive legal action to protect victims and bring offenders to justice in Derbyshire and beyond.
