MATUS VAJDIK FROM BURNLEY FACES LONG PRISON SENTENCE AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON SCHOOLGIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Burnley, the sentencing of Matus Vajdik, a 24-year-old man, was temporarily postponed by a judge to allow for the viewing of crucial CCTV footage related to two separate incidents involving young schoolgirls. The court proceedings took place at Burnley Crown Court, where Vajdik appeared from custody to face the charges against him.
Vajdik had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, both involving girls aged 13 and 14.
The first incident reportedly occurred as the 13-year-old girl was walking through a subway beneath Centenary Way, a busy route connecting the bus station to Gala Bingo.
The details of this incident have caused considerable concern among local residents and authorities, highlighting the dangers faced by young pedestrians in the area.
The second incident involved a 14-year-old girl walking in Lower Tentre, where Vajdik allegedly grabbed her around the waist.
This act of assault has further compounded the distress experienced by the victims and their families.
Despite the gravity of these offences, the court was unable to proceed with the sentencing because the security camera footage capturing these events was not available at the time of the hearing.
Judge Beverley Lunt, presiding over the case, decided to adjourn the proceedings until the following Monday to allow for the CCTV footage to be reviewed.
She emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating, “These are very serious matters and I need to see the CCTV footage before I proceed.” Vajdik, who resides on Thurston Street in Burnley, was remanded in custody.
The judge warned him that he should expect a “very long prison sentence” given the nature of his offences.
The court also expressed regret for the delay, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to the families of the young victims, who had attended the hearing in anticipation of a resolution.
This case underscores ongoing concerns about the safety of young people in Burnley and the importance of surveillance footage in ensuring justice is served.
The community awaits the next steps in the legal process as the court reviews the CCTV evidence to determine the appropriate sentence for Vajdik.
