JORDAN HALSTEAD'S SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE IN BURNLEY AND EASTBOURNE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Burnley and Eastbourne, Jordan Halstead, aged 38, was found to possess an extensive collection of nearly 2,000 child pornography images stored on his personal computer at his residence in Burnley. The details of the case were revealed during a court hearing at Burnley Crown Court, where it was disclosed that law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Halstead's home in January 2011.During the raid, officers observed Halstead's immediate reaction: he reached into a sock and produced four memory sticks, which he handed over to the police without resistance. When questioned about the contents, Halstead admitted that the drives contained a significant amount of explicit material, responding simply, “A lot.” The police investigation uncovered images depicting boys being subjected to abuse, some of whom appeared to be restrained or tied up, highlighting the severity and disturbing nature of the material stored on his devices.
Further inquiry revealed that Halstead was a member of an online community dedicated to sharing such illicit content. The authorities found that he possessed a total of 1,908 images classified at level one, 30 at level two, two at level three, four at level four, and 42 at the most serious level, level five. These findings underscored the gravity of his possession and distribution of child exploitation images.
During police questioning, Halstead explained that he was confused about his sexuality and claimed that he used the images for artistic purposes. He also stated that he was not attracted to young boys but was interested in their bodies and enjoyed drawing them. The court was informed that Halstead had a prior conviction for indecent assault on a male under 14 in 1992, which added to the seriousness of his current charges. At that time, he received a conditional discharge for placing his hand on the knee of a schoolboy.
Following his arrest, Halstead was taken into custody and subsequently appeared before the court. He admitted to 17 charges of making an indecent image of a child. His actions led to his dismissal from employment, and he has reportedly been suffering from suicidal thoughts since the proceedings. The court heard that he now resides in Eastbourne.
In sentencing, Judge Jonathan Gibson emphasized that although there are inherent risks associated with Halstead’s behavior, these risks could be managed effectively within the community. The court imposed a three-year community order, which includes supervision and participation in a sex offenders’ treatment program. Additionally, Halstead was ordered to pay costs of £200. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years, banned from working with children for life, and subjected to a five-year sexual offences prevention order, allowing police to monitor his internet activity closely.
Prosecutor David Macro detailed the extent of the illegal material, stating that the images ranged from less severe to the most serious levels, with some images classified at level five, indicating their highly disturbing nature. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from further harm.
