MATTHEW BROWN AND HIS BRUTAL CRIMES IN DERBYSHIRE AND ASHBOURNE

A 27-year-old university student from Derbyshire, identified as Matthew Brown, has been convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving the sexual assault and violent treatment of a woman, causing her to fear for her life.

The incident, which took place in Derbyshire, was described during a court hearing held at Derby Crown Court, where the severity and brutality of the attack were detailed.

According to the court's accounts, Matthew Brown subjected his victim to a series of violent acts that included head-butting, punching, and ultimately choking her until she lost consciousness.

The assault was not only sexual in nature but also physically aggressive, leaving the woman traumatized and fearing for her very life.

The victim was so distressed by the ordeal that she courageously chose to give evidence in court, reliving her suffering in front of the jury despite the trauma it entailed.

Throughout the trial, the jury carefully considered the evidence presented by both sides before reaching a verdict.

After deliberations, they found Matthew Brown guilty of three counts of rape.

The court heard from prosecutor Jonathan Dee, who detailed how the assault was prolonged and involved multiple forms of violence.

He emphasized that the attack occurred during a domestic setting at a house in Derbyshire.

The victim's account painted a harrowing picture of what transpired.

She described being raped through various methods and assaulted physically at several points during the attack.

She detailed how Brown head-butted, punched, and finally choked her to the point of unconsciousness, believing at one stage that he intended to kill her.

Her resilience in recovering from such a traumatic experience was acknowledged by the court; despite the severity of her ordeal, she managed to carry on with her life.

However, she remained understandably anxious about her personal safety, especially during nighttime.

In sentencing, Recorder Jason Macadam addressed the court, condemning Brown's violent and manipulative conduct.

He highlighted that the jury had rightfully found the victim's testimony to be credible and that her suffering was genuine.

The judge pointed out that Brown had initially sought to downplay the severity of the assault in his pre-sentence report but had lied and provided a false account during his trial, which portrayed him as less culpable.

The judge also remarked upon Brown's dishonesty and the threat he posed to women.

The court's findings also included a description of Brown's background; at the time of the crime, he was studying medicine and pharmacology at the University of Nottingham.

His defense attorney, Roger Wilson, argued that Brown harbored remorse and held hope for rehabilitation after serving his sentence.

Wilson stated that his client feels terrible about his actions, regrets his behavior, and genuinely hopes the victim is able to recover from the trauma.

Matthew Brown was sentenced to 16 years in prison, comprising 12 years of incarceration plus an additional four-year extended license period.

This means he will be eligible to apply for parole after serving approximately eight years—two-thirds of his custodial sentence.

Additionally, he was handed a lifetime order prohibiting him from unsupervised contact with women and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

The court took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of protecting the victim's anonymity, which is why comments on this story have been disabled.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that violent sexual assaults can have on victims and the justice system's role in holding offenders accountable.
