LEICESTER PAEDOPHILE MARTIN ROBERTS SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CRIMES AGAINST TWO YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has spanned decades, Martin Roberts, a 70-year-old man from Leicester, has been convicted and sentenced for the sexual abuse of two young girls.The crimes, which occurred over a period of nearly twenty years, from 1973 to 1992, have finally been brought to justice after a lengthy investigation and trial.
Roberts, who resided on Oxford Street in Leicester, was identified and reported to the authorities in 2018.
The case came to light after both victims, who had lost contact with each other over the years, reconnected through social media.
During their conversations, they disclosed details of the abuse they had endured at the hands of Roberts, which prompted them to provide formal statements to the police.
Following a comprehensive investigation, Roberts was charged with multiple counts of sexual offenses.
The trial took place at Leicester Crown Court, where the defendant faced a total of 23 charges.
The court found him guilty of eight counts of indecent assault, four counts of indecency with a child, two counts of rape, and two counts of attempted rape involving the first victim.
Additionally, Roberts was convicted of seven counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child concerning the second victim.
Today, Roberts was sentenced to 16 years in prison for his crimes.
The judge described his actions as 'horrific' and emphasized the lasting impact on the victims.
