MARK WARDLE FROM PLYMOUTH SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, a man named Mark John Anthony Wardle, aged 59, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offences involving young girls. The proceedings took place at Plymouth Crown Court, where the court heard detailed accounts of Wardle's predatory behavior that spanned over many years.
Wardle, who was unemployed at the time, targeted four young girls aged between ten and thirteen years old.
His method of grooming involved the use of popular social media applications such as Snapchat and KIK, where he posed as a child to establish a false sense of trust with his victims.
Once he succeeded in gaining their confidence, Wardle then manipulated them into performing degrading sexual acts.
One particularly disturbing demand involved instructing several of the girls to insert Sharpies and pens into their private areas, a request that highlights the twisted nature of his predatory tactics.
Further allegations revealed that Wardle's criminal activities extended beyond online grooming.
On one occasion, he visited the residence of a family member and targeted her 10-year-old daughter.
According to court reports, Wardle followed the young girl into the shower and took indecent photographs and videos of her while she was naked and washing herself.
These acts of exploitation caused significant distress and trauma to the young victim, who eventually found the courage to speak out and report the abuse to the authorities.
The court was informed that Wardle's offending began as early as 2000 and persisted over a lengthy period, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behavior.
During police interviews, Wardle showed no remorse for his actions.
When authorities seized his electronic devices—including his computer, two external hard drives, and his phone—they uncovered a vast collection of child sexual abuse images, nearly 50,000 in total.
These images ranged across all levels of indecency and age groups, and Wardle admitted that he collected them because he derived sexual gratification from viewing such material.
In court, Wardle addressed one of his victims, who is now 18 years old, and expressed remorse, apologizing for his actions.
Despite this, the judge sentenced him to six and a half years in prison.
Additionally, Wardle was ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, and a sexual harm prevention order was imposed indefinitely to prevent any further offending.
The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and the community of Plymouth, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need for strict legal consequences for those who exploit and abuse children.
