MAN CONVICTED OF CITY RAPE
A 21-year-old Norwich man has been convicted of raping and assaulting a woman with whom he had been engaged in a relationship.Malaki Morgan, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of one charge of rape and two others of assault, all in respect of the same woman, following a trial at Norwich Crown Court.
Morgan, who has been on remand since September last year, was jailed for six and a half years for rape and four months imprisonment for each of the assaults, to run concurrently.
The offence happened on July 21, last year, in Norwich.
The victim and Morgan were in a short-term relationship when the offences took place and the victim described Morgan's attitude towards her as changing after the first few days, culminating in him being physically abusive towards her and very controlling of her.
The court heard that he had confiscated her flat keys and mobile phone on numerous occasions.
Investigating officer Det Con Amanda Mills-Robinson said: “I am very pleased with the result of this trial and sentence.
“Norfolk Constabulary takes domestic violence very seriously > We hope that this verdict will help the victim in putting this traumatic incident behind her and moving on with her life.”
