LIAM RYAN FROM BOLTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TEENAGER AT HIS HOME
In July 2014, Liam Ryan, a 45-year-old man from Dean Court, Bolton, avoided imprisonment after committing a sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl he had invited into his home.The incident came to light when the teenager, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, raised the alarm following the assault while she was sleeping.
Prosecutor Michael Goldwater explained that Ryan had a pattern of inviting teenagers over to his house and supplying them with alcohol.
The group, including the victim, visited Ryan’s residence on October 26 of the previous year.
During the visit, they were served a litre bottle of vodka, an alco-pop, and flavored shots.
While the others left to obtain more alcohol from another address, the victim fell asleep.
Ryan then took her upstairs to a spare bedroom.
About an hour later, Ryan entered the room, undressed her while keeping her underwear on and put her pyjamas over her.
He then proceeded to massage her shoulders and upper back, touching her inappropriately.
Mr.
Goldwater stated, “She grabbed his hands and kept them away.
He then watched at the end of the bed, fiddled with his trousers, dropped them to the floor and left the room.” Ryan was detained the following day.
The court heard that he has previous convictions related to dishonesty.
Judge Davies, presiding over the case, remarked, “The sentencing guidelines mean I can’t impose a sentence much more than 18 months imprisonment.
After nine months, you would be released and would not have received any help in custody or outside.” He emphasized the importance of preventing further offenses: “The only way that can be done is if you go on an appropriate sex offenders programme and are made subject to a sexual offences prevention order.
If there are any breaches, you will go to prison, and there won’t be any second chances.” On the day of his trial, Ryan pleaded guilty to one count of sexually assaulting a child.
His sentence includes a three-year community order requiring him to complete a sexual offenders’ programme, a 10-year sexual offences prevention order, placement on a barred persons list, and a requirement to notify police of his address for seven years.
