THOMAS MARRON FROM BOLTON SENTENCED AFTER KISSING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN BOLTON
In July 2012, a disturbing case emerged involving Thomas Marron, a 23-year-old man from Bolton, who was involved in a troubling incident with a young girl.Marron was found to have tracked down the girl via the internet and engaged in inappropriate behavior that led to legal action.
It was revealed that Marron admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the 13-year-old girl after her mother discovered a concerning comment on Facebook, which referenced her daughter and an older man.
The incident prompted police investigation and subsequent court proceedings.
Thomas Marron, residing on Duke Street in Bolton, was sentenced to a three-year community order.
As part of this sentence, he is required to participate in a sexual offending treatment programme designed to address his behavior and prevent future offenses.
Additionally, he must notify the police of his address for the next five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his whereabouts and compliance.
The Bolton Crown Court heard that Marron had initially looked up the girl on Facebook after seeing a photograph of her playing hockey, which was published in The Bolton News in 2009.
This act of online stalking led him to initiate contact with her through social media platforms.
Prosecutor Thomas Fitzpatrick explained that Marron engaged in conversations with the girl on Facebook, which eventually transitioned to instant messaging via MSN Messenger.
During their chats, the girl disclosed her age as 14, although she was only 13 at the time, and Marron falsely claimed to be 20 years old, matching his actual age.
On January 7, 2010, the girl, who was off school that day, invited Marron to her home.
Her sister was also present during the visit.
The two watched a film together, and during the course of their time together, Marron made references to kissing, which had been previously discussed.
According to the court, Marron then kissed the girl while they were on the stairs.
The girl reportedly found the kiss boring and did not enjoy it, describing it as lasting approximately 20 seconds.
Following the incident, the girl’s mother reported the matter to the police, leading to Marron’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
His defense lawyer, Ian Metcalfe, emphasized that Marron had no prior criminal record and had not contacted the girl since the incident.
He also stated that Marron was unlikely to commit similar offenses again.
During sentencing, Recorder Mark Ainsworth acknowledged that Marron was aware of the girl’s true age and identity.
Despite this, he emphasized that as an adult, Marron should have taken responsibility to ensure that his relationship with the girl remained appropriate.
The judge also noted that Marron was relatively immature for his age and that the case did not constitute a breach of trust, but the behavior was nonetheless serious and unacceptable.
