July 2011 Paedophile jailed indefinitely after 15 years of attacks A PAEDOPHILE who abused children as young as two over a 15-year period has been jailed indefinitely. Martin Kelly, aged 51, must serve a minimum of nine years and three months before he can even be considered for parole — and may never be released. His crimes came to light after police raided his Bolton home on October 20 last year following a boast in an internet chatroom, when Kelly claimed he had abused children. Three DVDs of extreme pornography were found, along with cameras and a computer which contained a file labelled “babe”. The file contained indecent pictures of a child he had abused, Bolton Crown Court heard. He admitted 28 charges — eight relating to sexual assault of a child including rape, eight counts of taking indecent photographs of children, distributing an indecent image on the internet, 10 counts of downloading 300 indecent images and possessing 34 bestiality images. Images he downloaded ranged from level one to level five — the most serious and disturbing category. Joseph Allman, prosecuting, said the youngest of Kelly’s four victims, who was under two years old when she was abused, had become terrified of being bathed or undressed and had screamed and vomited. Other victims blamed themselves for not reporting the abuse sooner and now found it difficult to trust men. Kimberley Morton, defending, said: “The defendant told me he deserves everything he gets. “He realises he will be an old man when he is released from custody.” Judge Maureen Roddy, sentencing Kelly, of no fixed address, said: “One can only hope that the young victim can have the love and support of her family and she can be nurtured to have a healthy adult life. “I hope the victims will be able to go forward and recover.” She jailed him indefinitely for the protection of the public. Kelly showed no emotion as he was led out of the dock. Victims and family and friends of victims held hands as he was sentenced.
