KEVIN DOXEY AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENSES IN DERBYSHIRE
A teaching assistant named Kevin Doxey has been found guilty of engaging in inappropriate and criminal sexual communications with several students at Anthony Gell School located in Wirksworth, Derbyshire.His actions have led to severe legal consequences, including a prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender.
Doxey, aged 27, appeared before Derby Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual communication with minors.
The court heard detailed accounts of his misconduct, which included sending explicit images and administering what was described as a 'sex questionnaire' to students at the school.
The misconduct was uncovered after one of Doxey’s victims confided in her parents about the inappropriate messages she received, prompting them to alert police authorities.
Subsequently, law enforcement officers seized Doxey’s mobile phone and discovered a significant number of messages directed at other young girls, revealing a disturbing pattern of behavior.
Prosecutor Laura Blackband elaborated on the nature of Doxey’s communications, stating that he had obtained Snapchat contact details of four girls, all students at Anthony Gell School, and engaged them with increasingly sexually charged messages.
Among the messages sent, Doxey circulated a questionnaire that contained numerous questions of a sexual nature.
This questionnaire included inquiries such as the girls’ bra sizes and what they typically wore to bed.
Ms.
Blackband emphasized that the questions could have led to or encouraged sexual activity, illustrating the predatory intent behind his actions.
One particular victim, who was only 15 years old at the time, was notably distressed by the questionnaire.
She recounted to her parents that Doxey had asked her to select a number and then answered the questions.
The situation escalated when, during a sleepover, she received a message from Doxey containing a sexually explicit photograph of himself, accompanied by a winking emoji and three kisses.
She was so disturbed by this that she showed the image to a friend, who advised her to report it to authorities.
Further victims came forward through police investigations.
One described how Doxey asked her inappropriate questions via Snapchat, such as whether he could come and pick her up in his car, and whether she was a virgin.
Another girl indicated that she received inappropriate Instagram messages from Doxey.
The court heard that Doxey’s 'sex questionnaire' asked questions like her bra size and what she wore in bed, to which she initially refused to answer.
Nevertheless, Doxey allegedly persuaded her to respond, and when she chose not to, he persisted by asking whether she would answer the questions, thereby pressuring her.
The case revealed that after his suspension from Anthony Gell School, Doxey had left the institution and subsequently taken up employment at a supermarket.
The victims, supported loyally by their families, courageously delivered victim impact statements during the court proceedings.
One expressed her feelings of betrayal, saying, "I was at school, a place where I felt safe and confident, and all of that was taken away from me by a person in authority.
I was a child, he was an adult, a teacher." Another victim disclosed her struggle with mental health, revealing she had attempted to take her own life, attributing some of her distress to Doxey’s misconduct.
She recounted an incident where she unexpectedly saw Doxey working in Morrisons in Belper, which devastated her and caused her to leave the store.
Additional statements included reflections on the shock and betrayal felt when recalling the abuse, with victims noting that school, which should have been a sanctuary, was tarnished forever by Doxey’s actions.
Doxey attempted to justify his conduct by claiming that the explicit photograph was sent to his girlfriend.
However, police investigations into their messages found that none contained sexually explicit content.
During sentencing, lawyer Dan Scothern mentioned that Doxey now works for a company called Clear Group, expressing remorse on his behalf.
Doxey acknowledged his wrongdoing and the harm caused, stating: "I understand what I have done and the huge amount of damage I have caused not just to the victims but to their families and my family.
If I could go back and change everything I would." Judge Graham Huston delivered a firm sentence, sentencing Doxey to two years in prison.
The court also ordered him to register as a sex offender for ten years and imposed a ten-year sexual harm prevention order to restrict his activities concerning minors.
