PECKHAM BARBER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
A court heard how barber Kenny Obire, of Bath Close, Peckham, met his 22-year-old victim in July 2002 as she was walking past his place of work.She told Obire she was eager to improve her English and accepted an invitation to his flat.
There, he offered her food, kissed her on the cheek without warning, and then chased her around the flat before forcing her onto the bed.
The woman later returned to France and made her rape allegation.
An item of clothing she wore at the time was tested, and Obire's DNA was found on the garment.
He was finally arrested in 2006 after investigators traveled around to gather evidence.
Obire denied raping her, claiming only that he was a thief and a crack addict but not a rapist.
He was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to nine years in prison, with the court additionally recommending his deportation once released.
