JOHN STAINSBY CAUGHT AGAIN IN PETERBOROUGH FOR FILMING UP YOUNG WOMEN'S SKIRTS
In a disturbing recurrence of his previous offenses, John Stainsby, a 78-year-old resident of Keys Park in Peterborough, has once again found himself at the center of a criminal investigation involving the invasion of young women's privacy. The incident took place in February 2014 at the bustling Queensgate shopping centre, a popular retail hub in the city, where Stainsby was observed using a mobile phone to secretly film and photograph unsuspecting females as they ascended the escalators. This was not the first time Stainsby had engaged in such illicit activity. Back in 2011, he was issued an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) after admitting to outraging public decency by similar conduct. The court records indicate that he was the oldest individual in Peterborough to be subjected to such an order, which explicitly prohibited him from possessing a camera in any public place. Despite this, he continued to violate the restrictions set forth by the court.
On the recent Wednesday hearing at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, Stainsby pleaded guilty to charges of outraging public decency and breaching his existing ASBO. Prosecutor Jackie Carradice outlined the details of the case, stating, “The defendant was sentenced on July 4, 2011. The ASBO was made to last until further notice.” She explained that plainclothes officers had identified Stainsby on February 26 at Queensgate, where he was seen actively using his phone on an escalator. When approached at Queensgate bus station, he was asked to surrender his phone. Although he handed over a device incapable of taking photographs, he also provided another phone that could.
Further investigation revealed that Stainsby had taken three videos on February 23, along with a number of photographs, all of which involved young women in the shopping centre. The court was also informed that Stainsby had previously discussed his problem with his general practitioner and had been advised to seek counseling, indicating an awareness of his inappropriate behavior.
Magistrate Mrs. Shields emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating that it warranted a transfer to Peterborough Crown Court for sentencing, where a judge has broader powers to impose penalties. While bail was granted, restrictions were placed on Stainsby’s movements, specifically banning him from visiting Queensgate except for essential reasons such as using the bus station or collecting prescriptions from Boots pharmacy.
