John Goode

Newton Abbot Sexual Abuser

December 2014 Pensioner jailed for 15 years for abducting and raping 12 year old schoolgirl  Police have praised the courage of a young abuse victim after a pensioner who groomed her for sex was jailed for 15 years. John Goode corrupted the girl when she was just 12 and bribed her with sweets and tobacco before paying her £30 a time for sex. The girl was so deeply traumatised by her experiences that, although she is only 14, she told police she saw herself as a prostitute. She girl was taken into council care when she was 12 to stop her being abused by Goode and another man in Newton Abbot but he sought her out in foster and care homes and helped her abscond, Exeter Crown Court was told. Ex Royal Navy sailor Goode, aged 72, of Sandringham Road, Newton Abbot, admitted rape, abduction, and sexual activity with a child and was jailed for 15 years by Judge Jonathan Fuller. After the sentence chief investigating officer Detective Inspector Julie Pazzani praised the victim’s courage in helping the police and thanked social services departments for their work on the case. She said: ”I am pleased with the outcome. Goode targeted the vulnerability of this child and undermined all attempts to keep her safe. “There are no grey areas in this case. This was child exploitation and abuse. We wish to thank the victim for assisting the police and showing a great deal of bravery. “I would also like to thank our partner agencies who have also been very determined to tackle child exploitation and allow this child to have a safer future. “The victim is now in a better, safer place and is able to start moving on. She is accessing better support and doing a lot better than she was.” Judge Fuller told Goode that his abuse had caused great harm to the girl. He said: “You groomed this girl within the space of a few weeks to the position where you asked her to have sex with you for payment, and over the next 18 months you abused her regularly and paid her approximately £30 a time, several times a week. “You knew she was particularly vulnerable and frustrated the efforts of social services to keep her safe by facilitating her absconding. “Before your arrest you were tipped off by her that police were investigating and you had your bags packed and it is good fortune that police arrested you before you went abroad. “It is a particular aggravating feature that you repeatedly took her out of care and there was grooming from the early stages.” Adrian Chaplin, prosecuting, said Goode’s grooming led to the girl agreeing to have sex with Goode for gifts and money, including £3,000 he has left for her in his will. He said: “When he was arrested on suspicion of abduction he was found to have £33,000 in a plastic bag and another bag containing clothes and a passport and showed every sign of being in a position to decamp when police attended his home. “It is the Crown’s case the exploitation in which the girl was involved was so entrenched that he had no regard to the obvious risks to which he was exposing her. He had no regard to her being taken from a place of safety. “She has been in care since 2012 and she has been set back in every aspect of her development. She described herself in her interview as a prostitute.” Mr Rupert Taylor, defending, said: “There was no violence or threats of violence or degradation. He was old, lonely and unwell.” He said Goode suffered sexual abuse in his own childhood at the notorious Forde Park care home in Newton Abbot. November 2014  Pensioner admits abducting and raping schoolgirl aged under 13 yrs old A pensioner from Newton Abbot has admitted abducting and raping a schoolgirl.
