JASON STACEY BETRAYS TRUST OF CAMBORNE MUMS WITH PAST CRIMES AND ILLEGAL STAY OVER

In a disturbing case that has shaken the community of Camborne, Cornwall, Jason Stacey, aged 52, has been sent back to prison after failing to disclose his criminal history to two local mothers with whom he had established close relationships. Stacey’s actions, which involved staying overnight at their homes and engaging with their children in seemingly innocent ways, concealed a dark past that he deliberately kept hidden from those who trusted him.

Stacey appeared before Truro Crown Court to face sentencing after pleading guilty to multiple breaches of a sexual offences prevention order and violations of his notification requirements as a registered sex offender. The court heard that Stacey had been subject to strict legal restrictions following his previous convictions, which included a 14-year prison sentence handed down in 2009 for serious sexual offenses involving minors. His past crimes involved three counts of raping a male under 16, eight counts of gross indecency with a male child, and gross indecency with a female child.

Prosecutor Francesca Whebell detailed how Stacey, in 2020, began a relationship with a woman from Camborne. Although they did not cohabit, Stacey stayed at her home on at least five occasions. During these visits, children were present, and Stacey engaged with them in a manner that appeared caring and benign. He was seen talking to the daughter, helping around the house, and participating in family outings to places like Helston boating lake and Paradise Park in Hayle. He also attended barbecues and other social events where children were present, further ingratiating himself into the family’s life.

Following the end of this relationship, Stacey was offered temporary accommodation by a friend of the woman, who was also a mother. Stacey was recovering from a motorcycle accident and was living in a caravan at the time. During this period, he continued to help out with household chores, cuddled with the daughter, and spent time reading and watching movies with her. The family described him as an ‘uncle figure,’ unaware of his criminal past.

However, the truth eventually surfaced, leaving the families devastated. They expressed feelings of betrayal and remorse, with one woman admitting she “beats herself up” for putting her children at risk of “this monster.” Both women stated that had they known about Stacey’s criminal history, they would have kept their children away from him entirely. It was revealed that Stacey had been convicted of similar offenses in Cornwall last year, which he fully admitted during police interviews.

In court, Stacey expressed remorse, stating, “I’m extremely sorry to the people I hurt. They were nice people and deserved better than that.” He added that since his incarceration last year, he had gained insight into his actions and acknowledged the pain he caused, noting that he had lost his family because of his past.

Judge Robert Linford sentenced Stacey to 18 months in prison, a sentence to run concurrently with any other sentences he is currently serving. The judge emphasized that Stacey was fully aware of the restrictions placed upon him and had deliberately breached them by maintaining close contact with children and engaging in relationships that put minors at risk. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of his breaches and the ongoing threat he poses to the community of Camborne.
