In a significant legal case that has drawn considerable attention in Cornwall, a 46-year-old man named George Matthew has been sentenced to six years in prison by a court in Truro for his involvement in the sexual abuse of three young girls.The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior spanning several decades, leading to a stern judgment from the judiciary.
George Matthew, who previously held the position of licensee at the Tuckingmill Hotel located in Camborne, was described by the presiding judge at Truro Crown Court as a “remarkably persistent offender.” This characterization underscores the repeated nature of his criminal conduct and the difficulty in preventing his actions over the years.
At the time of his remand, Matthew was residing at Kuggar on the Lizard Peninsula, a location that became part of the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
His conviction followed a trial that concluded last month, during which he was found guilty of two separate charges of indecent assault committed against a young teenager.
These charges added to a series of previous allegations, as Matthew had earlier pleaded guilty to eight counts involving indecent assault and gross indecency against two other girls dating back to the 1970s.
The judge, Jeffrey Rucker, emphasized the severity of Matthew’s actions and the long-lasting impact on his victims.
He stated that Matthew posed a significant risk of re-offending, which led to the decision that he should remain on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
This measure aims to monitor and prevent any future offenses, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Judge Rucker also highlighted the emotional toll inflicted upon the victims, noting that Matthew’s misconduct had caused them great distress over a period exceeding 30 years.
Despite the lengthy history of his offenses, the offender showed no remorse during the proceedings.
