JASON CULLEN FROM CROYDON CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN SUTTON

In April 2011, Jason Cullen, a man residing on Charles Street in Croydon, found himself at the center of a disturbing criminal case involving the possession of indecent images of children. Cullen, who previously worked as an emergency call operator, appeared before Sutton Magistrates’ Court to face serious charges after being caught with explicit material depicting minors as young as two years old.

His arrest took place on February 25, following a revelation by his wife’s grandmother, a resident of Sutton. The elderly woman discovered that her laptop contained approximately 20 vile images of children engaged in sexual acts. The images were accessed through websites that Cullen had visited, as evidenced by the browsing history she found. It was later confirmed that Cullen had been using her computer to view these depraved photographs.

During the court proceedings, Cullen, whose real name is Jason Hodson, admitted to possessing these indecent images. His solicitor highlighted her client’s cooperation with law enforcement and praised his honesty, stating that Cullen had deliberately left the incriminating evidence on the computer despite his technical knowledge. She added that Cullen had expressed a desire to be caught, claiming he wanted help for his condition.

In his police interview following his arrest, Cullen made a chilling confession: “I am a paedophile, I cannot help it. I cannot control it but I do not get any sexual gratification from it.” This statement underscored the complex and troubling nature of his case.

It was also revealed that Cullen had a prior conviction from 2009, when he was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court to two years in prison for possessing over 8,000 indecent images of children and babies. During that earlier case, it was established that Cullen had engaged in online exchanges with other offenders, sharing some of the most degrading images possible. After serving one year, Cullen was released on licence and subsequently changed his name from Hodson through a deed poll, reportedly due to receiving death threats.

His solicitor argued that Cullen’s alleged abuse, which he claimed occurred in 2000 when he was 16, coincided with the start of his problematic behavior. However, no charges or prosecutions followed that initial allegation.

Following his guilty plea to the current charges, magistrates decided against sending Cullen to prison immediately. They ordered a probation report to be prepared before sentencing, which is scheduled for April 18. Despite the gravity of the offence, Cullen was spared immediate imprisonment, having already served 14 weeks in custody since his arrest.

Instead, Cullen received an 18-month community order, was fined £85, and was required to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years. Additionally, he was placed under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), which restricts his use of electronic devices to work-related purposes only. He must also allow police to search any of his devices at any time and is prohibited from staying at premises with children under 18, except in hotels. Magistrates emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that while prison was a possibility, they aimed to assist Cullen in addressing his issues.
