CROYDON MAN ALISTER COOLING JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN LONDON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community and the wider London area, Alister Cooling, a 27-year-old resident of Croydon, was sentenced to six months in prison after admitting to possessing and downloading highly disturbing child pornography material.The case was heard at Croydon Crown Court, where Judge Stephen Waller delivered a stern warning about the severity of the crimes committed.
Cooling, who has been involved in political circles as a writer for the Conservative Home website and had campaigned for London Mayor Boris Johnson, was found to have owned and downloaded films depicting the abuse of young girls as young as five.
The material he possessed included some that police classified at the highest levels of abuse severity, including a film featuring bestiality.
These revelations have caused widespread outrage and concern over the safety and protection of children.
During the sentencing, Judge Waller emphasized the horrifying nature of the images involved, stating, “The contents of these images are horrifying.
Any right-thinking person could not but be repulsed.
By downloading this material you give encouragement to people who are filming the abuse and suffering of children.” Initially, Cooling attempted to deny any malicious intent, claiming that he had downloaded the films by accident.
However, under police questioning, he eventually broke down and confessed to being “obsessed” with such material.
The charges against him included making indecent images and possessing extreme pornography.
As part of his sentence, Cooling will serve half of his six-month term in custody before being released on license, meaning he will be subject to supervision and restrictions upon release.
Cooling’s background includes a brief stint on the BBC reality TV show Castaway two years prior, where he was described as the “ultimate couch potato” and expressed that he would miss his computer most while on the island.
His online presence also revealed a fascination with television shows such as Buffy and Angel, and he listed his “TV, computer, and hi-fi” as his main interests and influences.
The case has cast a shadow over his previous public persona and raises serious questions about the safety of individuals involved in political and media circles in Croydon and beyond.
