JAMIE SHEVLIN FROM CAMBRIDGE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 15-YEAR-OLDS AT CAMBRIDGE

In a case that has shocked the local community of Cambridge, a man named Jamie Shevlin has been sentenced to prison for engaging in sexual activities with two underage girls. The incident took place in May 2006, when Shevlin, then aged 27, encountered two 15-year-old girls during an evening outing on Parker’s Piece, a well-known public park in Cambridge.

According to court reports, Shevlin was present with the two girls and a 14-year-old friend when he initiated a conversation with them. During their interaction, Shevlin, who resided at Goodwin Close, Queen Edith’s, Cambridge, began to flirt with one of the girls. He falsely claimed to be 19 years old, despite the girls’ clear warnings that they were all underage. Ignoring these warnings, Shevlin extended an invitation for the girls to visit his uncle’s residence located on Sturton Street in the Petersfield area of Cambridge.

Subsequently, Shevlin took the first girl to an upstairs bedroom where they engaged in unprotected sexual activity. Meanwhile, he also took the second girl outside, lifting her by the legs and carrying her to a nearby car park in Vicarage Terrace. There, he proceeded to have sex with her as well. The second girl had recently turned 15, just a few weeks prior to the incident. During the act, she told Shevlin to stop, which he did, apologizing and explaining that he had become too excited.

Prosecutor Duncan O’Donnell provided details of the events, stating that the girls had initially bought vodka and sparkling wine, which they consumed in a city centre car park before heading to Parker’s Piece. It was around 10:30 pm when Shevlin approached them. One of the girls questioned his age, asking, “You do know we’re only 15?” but he falsely claimed to be 19 and invited them to his house. The court heard that Shevlin’s actions were a clear violation of laws protecting minors from sexual exploitation.

Shevlin’s past criminal record was also highlighted during the proceedings. He has previous convictions for threatening behavior, theft, and possession of cocaine. His defense attorney, Roger Harrison, described Shevlin as an immature individual who had met the girls while they were out for a good time, attempting to mitigate the severity of his actions.

Judge Jonathan Haworth delivered the sentence, emphasizing the importance of responsibility at the age of 27. He stated, “At the age of 27, a man ought to know his responsibilities and make sure he does not have sex with children.” Shevlin was sentenced to nine months in prison and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years following his release, underscoring the seriousness of his offenses and the need for ongoing monitoring to protect the community of Cambridge.
