July 2010 Pervert jailed after girl’s mother catches him on Facebook A pervert who assaulted a girl on her 14th birthday and hoarded more than 100 sick images has been jailed for 32 months. Michael Alderton, of Crowland Way, Cambridge, attacked his victim at a party after she had been drinking. The 28-year-old was found out when the girl’s mother looked on her Facebook pages and discovered they had chatted about what had happened. When police raided his home they discovered the indecent images of girls on his computer, St Albans Crown Court heard. Ann Evans, prosecuting, said the assault on the girl happened at a party in the town on the night of May 23 and 24 last year. The victim turned 14 on the latter date. Alderton twice walked in on the girl while she was in the bathroom, Mrs Evans said, and on the second occasion he pushed her to the floor and got of top of her. Mrs Evans said the girl was feeling sick and turned her head away when he tried to kiss her. Nothing more was said until 3am, when the other guests had left and Alderton sexually assaulted the girl on the sofa. Mrs Evans said: “She felt extremely sick and scared and wanted him to stop.” Two months later the girl’s mother found a conversation the pair had on Facebook, in which Alderton said: “I will kiss you again if you want to.” When police seized Alderton’s computer they found 118 indecent images of girls aged between 12 and 14, at the lowest level of seriousness. There were also four movies at the lowest level and another which was one step up the scale of seriousness. Alderton admitted three counts of having sexual activity with a child, six charges of making indecent images and two of possessing indecent images. Liam Walker, defending, said of his client: “He was a relatively immature young man who had been involved in an isolated, ill-judged incident.” Alderton must sign the sex offenders register for life and is banned from communicating with girls aged under 16 over the internet or through text messages for five years.
