JAIME BAILEY FROM ANGLESEY SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES AND BREACHING POLICE REQUIREMENTS IN CAERNARFON
In March 2021, a serious legal case unfolded involving Jaime Bailey, a resident of Anglesey, who faced additional imprisonment after breaching conditions set under sexual offences legislation. The incident was brought before Caernarfon Crown Court, where Bailey appeared via video link from HMP Berwyn, the prison where he has been held since his arrest.
Bailey, aged 30, was convicted in 2016 for engaging in sexual activity with a female minor, a crime that resulted in a five-year custodial sentence.
As part of his sentence, he was mandated to notify police of any residence where a child was present.
Despite this, Bailey was found to have failed to comply with these notification requirements, which led to further legal repercussions.
Prosecutor Philip Clemo outlined to the court that Bailey had been on license in 2019 when he developed a relationship with the mother of a young child.
During that year, Bailey stayed at her home on two separate occasions while the child was present.
The court was informed that the family was aware of Bailey’s previous imprisonment but did not know the full details of his offence.
It was only when police visited Bailey in February 2020 that he disclosed the relationship, prompting officers to review his file and discover that he had not reported the relationship as required.
Following this breach, Bailey was recalled to prison in March 2020 and has remained incarcerated since then.
His legal representative, Henry Hills, argued that Bailey did not fully understand the importance of adhering to his notification obligations.
Mr.
Hills requested that the court consider suspending any custodial sentence, noting that Bailey was due to be released from his original five-year sentence in February 2020.
However, Judge Rhys Rowlands emphasized that Bailey was clearly aware that his actions constituted a breach of the legal requirements.
The judge sentenced Bailey to an additional 30 weeks in prison, a sentence to be served immediately.
In a related case from February 2016, Bailey, then 25, was convicted of grooming a teenage girl.
The court heard that Bailey, from Fron, Trevor, Holyhead, had engaged in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16.
Judge Philip Harris-Jenkins described how Bailey had knowingly pursued the girl, who was developing a crush on him, and had engaged in grooming behaviors including texting.
The court acknowledged Bailey’s lack of maturity at the time and imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to prevent future offenses.
These cases highlight the ongoing concerns regarding Bailey’s conduct and the importance of strict enforcement of notification requirements for sex offenders, especially those with a history involving minors.
