TREFOR JONES FROM ANGLESEY AND BANGOR FACES LONG PRISON SENTENCE AFTER HORRIFIC CRIMES AGAINST GIRLS
In a chilling case that has shocked the North Wales community, Trefor Keith Jones, a 48-year-old man with ties to both Anglesey and Bangor, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court via videolink from custody to face a staggering number of serious charges.The court was informed that Jones had committed a series of heinous crimes, including 36 counts of rape, sexual assault, and causing a child to watch sexual activity, all related to four young girls who were under the age of 13 when the abuse began.
It took the court clerk a full 22 minutes to read out all 42 charges and to take Jones's pleas, highlighting the extensive nature of the allegations.
During the proceedings, the court learned that the offences spanned over a period of several years, starting in 2007 and continuing until earlier this year.
The victims, now adults, had discussions with authorities, and as part of the plea agreement, no trial would be pursued on six charges that Jones denied.
Prosecutor Simon Rogers detailed the severity of the crimes, emphasizing that Jones had carried out a deliberate and sustained campaign of sexual abuse against the victims.
The court was also informed that Jones's address was listed as High Street, Bangor, although he is originally from Anglesey.
The judge, Timothy Petts, acknowledged the gravity of the offences, stating, “You have pleaded guilty to a horrific series of offences and the only sentence is that of a very long prison term.” Judge Petts explained that he would adjourn the sentencing to allow for reports to be prepared and to hear from the victims, emphasizing the importance of assessing the danger Jones might pose to others.
He also noted that Jones's guilty plea would be taken into account favorably during sentencing.
The judge ordered Jones to be present at the next hearing scheduled for September in Caernarfon.
During the 35-minute hearing, Jones spoke only to confirm his identity, date of birth, and to enter his pleas.
It was also made clear that he would be required to register as a sex offender, with the duration of this requirement to be decided at the upcoming sentencing.
The case has left a deep scar on the local communities of Anglesey and Bangor, with many awaiting the long-awaited justice for the victims.
