January 2018 Anglesey pensioner locked up for historical ‘campaign of rape and abuse’ A pensioner has been locked up for 17 years for repeatedly raping a girl. The court heard Frederick Graham Barber’s victim had given a “credible and compelling account” of what he had done to her over a four-year period more than 30 years ago. The 77-year-old, of Causeway Crescent, Huddersfield, but formerly of Anglesey, showed no emotion as he was led away to the cells to begin his sentence. udge Huw Rees said Barber’s victim was “particularly vulnerable, especially due to her age”. “This was persistent sexual abuse to satisfy your perverted sexual lust,” he said. The jury found Barber guilty of five charges of rape and five charges of indecent assault after a four-day trial at Caernarfon Crown Court. They cleared Barber of three charges of rape. During the hearing, they heard Barber had already admitted three charges of indecent assault against the girl, who was in her early teens when the abuse took place. The judge ordered Barber to serve concurrent sentences of 17 years for each of the rape charges. Concurrent sentences of up to 16 months were imposed for indecently assaulting the girl. Elen Owen, prosecuting, said some offences took place in a vehicle owned by Barber. The police had initially been informed of Barber’s behaviour in 1998, but no action was taken. The victim, now in her late 40s, had made a full written complaint to police in early 2015. Ms Owen said Barber had started abusing the girl when she was about 12 and this had escalated in frequency and severity as she had got older.
