HUGH NELSON FROM BOLTON CONVICTED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES AND ONLINE RAPE ENCOURAGEMENT
A man from Bolton, Hugh Nelson, aged 27, has been found guilty of multiple serious charges related to the creation and distribution of child sexual abuse images, as well as encouraging the sexual assault of minors via the internet.Nelson's criminal activities came to light after a thorough investigation by Greater Manchester Police, which led to his arrest in June 2023.
Following his arrest, authorities seized several of Nelson's digital devices for detailed forensic analysis.
The investigation revealed that Nelson was actively involved in online chatrooms where he engaged in the exchange and sale of computer-generated artwork depicting children in sexually explicit and physically abusive scenarios.
These chatrooms served as platforms for him to communicate with others who shared similar disturbing interests.
Nelson, who resides in Egerton, Bolton, admitted to fulfilling requests from individuals seeking explicit images of children being harmed.
These images were either sold for financial gain or shared freely within the online community.
Notably, some of the artwork he produced was based on real children’s images, adding a layer of heinousness to his crimes.
Over an 18-month period, Nelson estimates he earned approximately £5,000 from the sale of these illicit images.
Initially, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized five charges against Nelson, which included child sexual abuse and distribution of indecent images.
However, as the investigation progressed and further evidence was uncovered, the CPS added 11 more charges on 27 February 2024.
These additional charges stemmed from new findings during the examination of Nelson’s devices, which revealed that on three separate occasions, he exchanged messages with different individuals in chatrooms capable of encouraging the rape of children under the age of 13.
These revelations underscore the severity of Nelson’s actions and the danger posed by online platforms that facilitate such heinous crimes.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and bring offenders like Nelson to justice.
Nelson now faces a series of serious criminal charges, and his conviction serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and robust digital investigations in protecting vulnerable children from abuse.
