Eric Wayman

Spalding Gosberton Sexual Abuser

August 2015 Retired music teacher admits to indecent images charges A well-known organist and choir director in Spalding has admitted to having more than 4,000 indecent images of children in his possession. Eric Wayman (63), of Bowgate, Gosberton, who retired from teaching music at Spalding Grammar School in 2004, appeared before Boston magistrates on Wednesday when he also pleaded guilty to 11 charges of making indecent photographs of children. The case was committed to Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing, on a date to be fixed, and Wayman was given conditional bail. Wayman, founder of popular South Holland choir Cantemus in 1986, spent 29 years at Spalding Grammar School where he also studied from the age 13 and formed the Madigral Singers made of classmates and teachers. He studied music in London before qualifying as a teacher, dividing his time between school and running the choir at Spalding’s St John the Baptist Church. Wayman also wrote several musicals, worked with SADOS (Spalding Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society) and brought the curtain down on his teaching career by organising a Music in the Park event at Surfleet Park. Speaking to the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian in 2004, Wayman said: “Although I’ve enjoyed the classroom, the things I’ll remember most are the extra-curricular activities.”
