MARVIN SCAMPION SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN SPALDING

Marvin Scampion, a resident of Edward Road in Spalding, Lincolnshire, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 19 years after being convicted of multiple sexual offenses involving two children. The conviction came following a detailed two-week trial held at Lincoln Crown Court, where the court examined nine separate charges against him, involving a boy and a girl, both under the age of 13. Although he was found guilty on most counts, one charge was ultimately dismissed, resulting in a total of eight convictions.

During the proceedings, the court heard harrowing testimonies from the victims, now adults, who recounted the profound and lasting impact of Scampion’s actions. One of the male victims described how the abuse had stolen his childhood, emphasizing the deep emotional scars left behind. He expressed that the trauma had significantly affected his life, describing the court process as an extremely difficult ordeal. The victim also shared his fears of descending into mental instability, especially in light of Scampion’s denial of the allegations.

The female victim, meanwhile, detailed her ongoing struggles with panic attacks and nightmares that she attributes directly to the abuse she suffered. She courageously declared, “What I won’t let you do is take away my bravery,” highlighting her resilience despite the trauma.

The case was initiated in January 2020 when police arrested Scampion following disclosures made at a local school. The victims, who are now adults, provided detailed accounts of their experiences during the trial, shedding light on the severity and duration of the abuse. The court established that Scampion had engaged in sexual misconduct with the boy between 2008 and 2011, and with the girl from 2015 to 2016. Additional charges included engaging in sexual activity with a child in the presence of another person and acts of cruelty, notably when he brandished a knife during an incident involving a child.

Judge James House KC, presiding over the case, emphasized the enduring nature of the harm inflicted upon the victims. He stated that the damage caused by Scampion’s actions would likely be lifelong, underscoring the seriousness of the crimes committed.

In addition to the prison sentence, Scampion has been placed on the sex offenders' register for life. Upon release, he will serve an extended license period of 12 months and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, as well as a restraining order to protect the victims and prevent further offenses. The court’s verdict reflects the gravity of the crimes and the lasting impact on those affected in Spalding and beyond.
