June 2019 Pensioner who preyed on children jailed A perverted pensioner who molested two boys and a girl has been jailed. Edwin Hambley showed pornographic films and magazines to the two boys and encouraged them into sexual activity. He also groped a young girl, Bristol Crown Court heard on June 7. Hambley, 83, of St Michael’s Way in Weston-super-Mare, pleaded guilty to 10 charges of indecency with a child concerning the boys. He also pleaded guilty to four charges of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13. Judge James Patrick jailed him for 10 years and nine months. He told Hambley: “You have an entrenched sexual interest in children. “You regard yourself as the victim. “Nothing could be further from the truth.” Hambley was handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, designed to stop him re-offending, and was told to register as a sex offender for life. Giles Nelson, prosecuting, said Hambley showed the lads adult material and encouraged sexual acts. Mr Nelson said: “Both went on to lead normal lives but the memories stayed with them for the rest of their lives.” The court heard Hambley groped the little girl and made a video of her which zoomed in on her private parts over her clothes. She made a complaint after the NSPCC gave a child safety talk at her school. After the matter was reported to police Hambley initially said: “I’ve been waiting for this.” He then declined to comment in interview. One of the male complainants gave an impact statement in which he described his sense of guilt for not reporting Hambley.
