WESTON MAN SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
A man identified as Jonathan Farrelly, aged 36, has been sentenced to 21 months in jail for a series of violent attacks on his former partner, which left her physically and emotionally scarred.Farrelly's ex-partner suffered 'substantial bruising' across her entire body during an incident that took place last October, according to police reports.
Farrelly was convicted of two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of breaching a restraining order at Taunton Crown Court on 17 April.
He admitted to attacking the woman, which caused her to feel unsafe and scared to leave her home.
In her victim impact statement, she expressed her desire for peace and safety for her family, stating, "My house no longer felt like a home...
I want my children to feel safe and happy.
I need us to work as a family to recover from the trauma." The police emphasized that Farrelly had repeatedly assaulted his ex-partner, and in her statement, she described her world shrinking as a result of his violence.
Det Insp Scott Westbrook-Smith remarked that Farrelly has now been made accountable for his actions, saying, "His sentence reflects the seriousness of repeated domestic abuse and the harm it causes to victims and families.
We hope this outcome provides justice and relief." The court's decision was seen as a step toward justice for victims of ongoing domestic violence.
