EDWIN HAMBLEY'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN WESTON-SUPER-MARE: PENSIONER JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Weston-super-Mare, Edwin Hambley, an 83-year-old resident of St Michael's Way, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of multiple heinous crimes involving children. The incidents, which spanned over a period of time, included the molestation of two young boys and a girl, with Hambley engaging in a series of sexually abusive acts that have left lasting scars on his victims.According to court proceedings held at Bristol Crown Court on June 7, Hambley admitted to ten charges of indecency with a child concerning the two boys. These charges involved him showing them pornographic films and magazines, as well as encouraging them to engage in sexual activities. The court heard that Hambley’s actions were not isolated incidents but part of a pattern of predatory behavior that exploited the innocence of the young boys.
In addition to his offenses against the boys, Hambley also pleaded guilty to four charges of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13. The court was informed that Hambley groped the young girl and went as far as filming her, zooming in on her private parts over her clothes. This particular incident came to light after the girl made a complaint following a child safety talk conducted by the NSPCC at her school. The court was told that Hambley’s actions had a profound and lasting impact on the victims, with one of the boys describing feelings of guilt for not reporting the abuse sooner.
Judge James Patrick, presiding over the case, sentenced Hambley to a prison term of ten years and nine months. During the sentencing, the judge made a pointed remark about Hambley’s psychological state, stating, “You have an entrenched sexual interest in children. You regard yourself as the victim. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
Furthermore, Hambley was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which is intended to prevent him from re-offending, and he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. Prosecutor Giles Nelson emphasized the severity of the crimes, noting that although the victims have been able to lead normal lives, the trauma inflicted by Hambley’s actions will remain with them forever. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which the justice system treats crimes of this nature, especially when committed against vulnerable children.
