DEREK LACKLAND FROM SOUTHAMPTON JAILED FOR POSSESSING OVER 17,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Southampton, a 68-year-old man named Derek Lackland has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possessing an enormous collection of indecent images of children. The investigation was initiated after police received a credible tip-off, prompting a swift operation that led to the arrest of Lackland at his residence in Dumbledown Towers, Southampton.
During the court proceedings at Southampton Crown Court, it was revealed that Lackland had accumulated more than 17,000 illicit images, some depicting children as young as a few months old.
The images included highly disturbing content involving sadism and penetration, with victims as young as nine months old.
The court was also informed that Lackland was not only a collector but also an active distributor of these images, sharing them with others through online chat rooms.
Lackland admitted that he had developed an addiction to these images after mistakenly receiving an email that contained the indecent material as attachments.
Despite his cooperation with police from the moment they arrived at his home, the court heard that his actions were premeditated and deliberate.
His defense lawyer, John Jones, attempted to mitigate his client's actions by stating that Lackland had been cooperative and claimed that he was not sexually aroused by the images, merely enjoying looking at them.
However, Judge Gary Burrell QC was unequivocal in his judgment.
He expressed concern over Lackland’s continued denial of the seriousness of his actions and emphasized that the possession of such a vast collection of child pornography was a grave offense.
The judge stated, “This was premeditated.
You hoarded these images and it is a concern you still don’t accept your interest in this type of pornography.” The sentence handed down reflects the severity of the crime and the need to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
