DAVID SHIELDS FROM TELFORD SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN SHREWSBURY

In March 2013, a man from Telford named David Shields was sentenced to serve 16 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images and videos of children. The case was heard at Shrewsbury Crown Court, where Shields, aged 33 and residing on Farm Lane, Donnington, appeared before Judge Robin Onions.

According to court records, Shields admitted to three charges related to the possession of indecent images of children. These included three photographs classified at level five, which is considered the highest severity level, and two images at level four. Additionally, he confessed to possessing two indecent movies featuring children, one of which was also classified at level five. The prosecution, led by Mr. Nicholas Burn, revealed that these images had been downloaded from the internet by Shields in June 2011.

The court heard that Shields was caught in the act while at his then-girlfriend’s residence, where he was watching one of the videos. This incident brought his illegal activities to light and led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.

During the proceedings, Shields’ defense attorney, Mr. Michael Sherwood-Smith, stated that his client had expressed a desire to seek help and move forward from his past actions. Despite this, Judge Onions emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, noting Shields’ prior criminal history, which included convictions for indecent assault, indecent exposure, gross indecency with a female child, and possession of indecent photographs of a child.

As part of his sentence, Shields was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years and was placed under a sexual offences public order for the same duration. Furthermore, he was permanently barred from working with children, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the potential risk to the community.

Following his sentencing, Shields was released back into the Telford area in November 2013, where he remains under supervision and subject to the restrictions imposed by the court.
