ROBERT NORRY FROM TELFORD SENTENCING EXTENDED AFTER COURT OF APPEAL CRITICISM
A man from Telford, identified as Robert Norry, has seen his prison sentence increased following a review by the Court of Appeal, which deemed his original punishment to be unduly lenient.Norry, aged 36 and residing in the Brereton area of Brookside, was initially sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court in July after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences, including the rape of a girl under the age of 13.
Originally, Norry was handed a sentence of nine years in prison for his crimes.
However, on October 3, the Court of Appeal intervened, and his sentence was extended to a total of 12 years.
Under the new ruling, Norry will serve 11 years behind bars, with an additional year on licence, meaning he will be subject to supervision after his release from prison.
Detective Constable Cara Winfer, who is part of Telford’s Protecting Vulnerable People Team, commented on the case, stating, “The Court of Appeal carefully reviewed the sentence Norry was given by the judge, and deemed it unduly lenient.
After reviewing case law and sentencing guidelines, Norry’s sentence was extended.
While any sentence given to Norry for the offences he committed won’t be long enough, hopefully this offers some form of closure to the victims and family who have to live with what he’s done.” Norry’s conviction has also resulted in him being placed on the sex offenders register for life.
His criminal record includes the rape of a girl under 13, two counts of sexual assault involving a girl under 13 through touching, and six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 16.
In addition to his prison sentence, the original court also imposed a 15-year restraining order and a 15-year sexual harm prevention order, aimed at protecting potential future victims and restricting Norry’s contact with minors.
