December 2015 Rapist sentenced to seven-years in prison A rapist has been jailed after he was found guilty by a jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court At his trial on the 14 December 2015, Shaun Devlin Faulks was found guilty of the rape of a child aged under 16-years-old. The court heard that the victim came forward after she found out that Faulks had been arrested for the rape of another young girl. After befriending the victims family, Faulks would spend a lot of time grooming the 14-year-old schoolgirl, gaining her trust and being her ‘friend’. However this soon turned sinister and one night after everybody had gone to bed, Faulks raped the girl in her bedroom. In an impact victim statement, the girl described how she was left emotionally scared. She said she had never told anyone, but now as an adult, and hearing he had done it again, she said she couldn’t keep it to herself any longer. Faulks showed no remorse for his actions throughout the trial. In court he lied, claiming that he did not even know the victim, nor that he had stayed at the house. However, halfway through the trial, Faulks changed his story and said the girl had consented to sex and had even encouraged it. The jury saw past his lies and found guilty of one count of rape. Judge Onions sentenced him to a total of seven years in prison. Faulks was told he must register as a sex offender for life
