DAVID GREGSON FROM ORFORD ESCAPES PRISON AFTER POSSESSING HUNDREDS OF INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN AND ANIMALS IN LIVERPOOL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Orford and the wider Liverpool area, David Gregson, a 56-year-old man from Chorley Street, Orford, was brought before Liverpool Crown Court in November 2018 to face serious charges related to the possession of indecent images involving children and animals. The proceedings revealed disturbing details about the extent of his offenses and the legal consequences he faced.According to court reports, police executed a search warrant at Gregson’s residence on Bruche Avenue in February 2017. During the search, officers seized two computers, which upon examination, uncovered a significant collection of illicit material. Prosecutor Christopher Hopkins detailed the findings, stating that the devices contained a total of 670 indecent images, categorized into different levels of severity. Among these, 14 images were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe and explicit content involving minors. An additional 53 images fell into Category B, and a staggering 606 images were classified as Category C, which still depicted underage children in compromising situations.
Furthermore, authorities discovered nine extreme pornographic images, some involving sexual acts with animals, and one that depicted acts of torture. Gregson admitted responsibility for possessing these images but claimed that he did not view them for sexual gratification. His defense argued that he was aware of the images but denied any intent to derive pleasure from them.
On October 28, Gregson appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges. These included three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing indecent images of children, one count of possessing prohibited images of children, and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images. His guilty plea marked a significant step in the case, but the court’s decision was to avoid immediate imprisonment.
During the hearing, Gregson’s defense solicitor, Alison Whalley, emphasized that her client had acknowledged his problematic behavior and had taken proactive steps to address it. She revealed that Gregson had enrolled himself in a course run by The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a charity dedicated to working with individuals who pose a risk of child exploitation, aiming to prevent further offending.
Judge Anil Murray addressed Gregson directly, warning him of the potential consequences of future offenses. He stated, “Any more offences like this and you will go to prison,” underscoring the seriousness of the matter.
As part of his sentencing, Gregson was handed a community order, which included a 30-day rehabilitation activity program. Additionally, he was ordered to participate in a sexual offenders’ treatment program. The court also imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order, restricting his activities and monitoring his behavior. Furthermore, Gregson was placed on the sex offender register for five years, ensuring ongoing oversight of his conduct.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and social services to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and harmful material, as well as the importance of rehabilitation and monitoring for offenders. The community of Orford and the surrounding areas remain vigilant, knowing that such disturbing cases are taken seriously and addressed through the justice system.
