DARREN ROGERS FROM SWINDON JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Swindon, Darren Rogers, aged 31, was sentenced to prison after being found in possession of an alarming collection of over 15,000 child sex abuse images on his personal computer. The case was heard at Swindon Crown Court, where it was revealed that Rogers had spent a decade actively searching the internet for illicit material involving minors.
According to court proceedings, Rogers meticulously catalogued and logged each image he acquired, which included some of the most heinous material involving children.
Among the images was a particularly disturbing photograph of a girl under the age of three, highlighting the severity of his offenses.
The police investigation was initiated after a raid on Rogers' residence on Wavell Road, Pinehurst, in March 2011, which uncovered the extensive collection of illegal content.
The images were classified into different levels based on their severity.
Of the total, 14,307 images were categorized as level one, depicting children in sexualized poses but not engaged in sexual activity.
An additional 655 images fell into level two, with five images classified as level three, and 63 images and movies as level four.
The most extreme material, level four, included 11 movies and 52 images, 21 of which were deemed particularly severe.
One of the movies, lasting approximately 14 minutes, depicted a girl estimated to be around 11 or 12 years old.
During the court hearing, defense counsel Alex Daymont attempted to mitigate Rogers' actions by highlighting his participation in seminars aimed at addressing his offending behavior.
He also mentioned that Rogers had experienced depression while awaiting the legal process, which took nearly two years.
Furthermore, it was noted that Rogers had pleaded guilty to the charges and was employed at the time of his arrest.
However, the presiding judge, Judge Ambrose, was unequivocal in his condemnation.
He stated, “For 10 years you had been searching the internet and downloading indecent images of children for your own sexual gratification.” The judge emphasized the gravity of the offenses, asserting that only a custodial sentence was appropriate given the nature of the crimes.
Judge Ambrose explained, “Each image represents a real child being abused; the animated images aside.
You are not the direct abuser, but by searching out this material, you and others provide the interest that stimulates the abuse.” The court made it clear that such material fuels the demand for abuse and perpetuates the cycle of harm.
As a result, Darren Rogers was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of 10 years and was prohibited from working with children.
His computer equipment was confiscated as part of the sentencing.
Rogers showed no visible emotion as he was led away, having pleaded guilty to charges of possession of indecent images, possession of extreme pornography, and possession of a prohibited image of a child.
