SIMON MUTIMER SWINDON PAEDOPHILE RELEASED AFTER SERVING HALF HIS JAIL TERM

In a development that has raised significant concern among local residents and law enforcement officials, Simon Mutimer, a known sex offender from Swindon, has been released from prison after serving only half of his 18-month sentence. The authorities confirmed that Mutimer, aged 37, is now residing at an undisclosed address within Swindon, explicitly stating that this new location is not one of his previous residences. This release comes despite Mutimer being classified as a high-risk individual to the public, a designation that was emphasized by a judge during his sentencing.

According to a police briefing held yesterday, Wiltshire police have placed Mutimer under strict supervision, which is governed by a combined police and probation service order that remains in effect until 2006. Additionally, he is required to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years, a measure designed to monitor his activities and whereabouts closely.

The background of Mutimer’s criminal conduct is deeply troubling. In February, Swindon Crown Court heard details of his disturbing actions, including filming young girls from an upstairs window of his former Euclid Street home. The court was informed that Mutimer possessed approximately 1,700 images of child pornography on his computer. He pleaded guilty to 13 charges related to making indecent photographs of children and one charge of creating an indecent video. The footage included scenes of a young girl playing naked in a paddling pool and another child urinating in bushes, highlighting the depravity of his offenses.

Judge Charles Wade, who sentenced Mutimer, described the material found as “appalling, depraved material pornography of an awful kind,” and noted that much of it fell into the more serious categories, though not the most extreme. The judge expressed concern over Mutimer’s interest in secretly filming girls for sexual gratification and his limited awareness of the victims’ suffering. Despite reports suggesting Mutimer posed a medium public risk, Judge Wade emphasized that his particular interest in creating home videos elevated the risk to a high level.

Mutimer’s home was raided by Swindon police following intelligence passed to them by American authorities as part of Operation Ore, a coordinated international effort targeting individuals involved in online child pornography. This operation was instrumental in linking Mutimer to the broader network of internet-based child exploitation.

In response to his release, Acting Detective Inspector Tim Corner reassured the public, stating, “As part of his conviction, he is to remain on an extended supervision order, which does not expire until September 2006. He will be supervised by the police and the probation service. If he fails to comply with the order, action will be taken against him. He must also sign the sex offenders’ register from the date of his conviction and inform the police of his whereabouts throughout that time.”

Corner further clarified that Mutimer is not residing at any of his previous addresses but is currently living somewhere within the Swindon area, underscoring the ongoing monitoring efforts by law enforcement agencies. The community remains on alert as authorities continue to track his movements and ensure compliance with the strict conditions imposed upon him, aiming to prevent any potential reoffending and protect vulnerable members of society.
