DANIEL SHAW AND SHOCKING RAPE IN STOKE-ON-TRENT AND CONGLETON
A man named Daniel Shaw, aged 32 and residing in Burslem, part of Stoke-on-Trent, has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for a serious sexual assault that took place in Congleton. The legal proceedings concluded with Shaw being convicted of one count of rape following a trial.
The case came to a close on Monday, 7 August, at Chester Crown Court, where the judge delivered a sentence of five years and six months behind bars.
The crime was reported by the victim in April 2022, when she informed the police that she had been sexually assaulted by Shaw during a night out in Congleton in December 2021.
Crucially, the victim had managed to record the incident using her mobile phone, providing vital evidence for the case.
Following the report, Shaw was quickly apprehended by law enforcement officers on 9 April 2022 on suspicion of rape.
He was formally charged shortly thereafter.
During police interviews, Shaw was shown the video footage of the assault.
Although he acknowledged that the footage contained his image, he claimed not to remember the events and attributed his lack of memory to being intoxicated at the time.
Despite his denial of the statutory charge, Shaw’s guilt was firmly established by the court after a six-day trial that ended in June.
The verdict was delivered on Monday, 26 June, confirming his involvement in the crime.
In addition to his prison term, Shaw was subjected to an indefinite restraining order, which prohibits him from contacting the victim or entering certain areas, and he was also ordered to comply with lifetime notification requirements under the law, ensuring ongoing monitoring due to the severity of his conviction.
This case highlights the importance of victims coming forward and underscores the justice system's capacity to address sexual offenses decisively.
Shaw's sentencing marks a significant step in holding perpetrators accountable for crimes committed in the Stoke-on-Trent and Congleton areas.
