JOHN GEARY FROM STOKE-ON-TRENT SENTENCED FOR RAPE AFTER PLYING TEENAGE GIRL WITH MONKEY DUST
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Stoke-on-Trent, John Geary, aged 38, was convicted of raping a teenage girl after subjecting her to the effects of illegal drugs and manipulating her into a vulnerable state.The incident, which took place in July 2018, involved Geary pressuring the young victim—whose identity remains protected—to consume monkey dust, a potent psychoactive substance known for its damaging effects.
According to court reports, Geary then proceeded to watch a pornographic film with the girl, further exploiting her compromised state.
The court heard that Geary's actions were deliberate, as he coerced her into taking the drug before engaging in sexual activity.
Despite his denial of the charges, the jury found that the victim was unable to give valid consent due to the influence of the monkey dust, which significantly impaired her judgment and awareness.
At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Judge Paul Glenn sentenced Geary to nine years in prison.
The judge described the offense as 'appalling' and emphasized the profound impact it had on the victim.
In his remarks, Judge Glenn stated, "You plied her with monkey dust, a psychoactive substance which is highly damaging, and she had not taken the substance before.
You pressured her into taking it.
The effect on her was significant, as you no doubt realized it was going to be." The judge further explained that the victim described feeling as if she was in a different world, unable to comprehend her surroundings or her actions at the time.
Geary, aware of her vulnerable state, took advantage of her condition.
The court also revealed that Geary and the victim consumed more monkey dust and watched pornography together before he instructed her to remove her clothes.
Subsequently, Geary engaged in sexual activity with her, then told her to keep quiet about what had happened, warning her that it would be their secret and that he would get into trouble if she told anyone.
It was also noted that Geary has a troubling criminal history, with previous convictions that are considered 'unattractive.' Currently, he is serving a four-year sentence for violent offenses, which underscores a pattern of concerning behavior.
The case has brought to light the dangers of drug-fueled exploitation and the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals from predatory actions within the community of Stoke-on-Trent.
