MAN WHO STABBED AND PUNCHED PARTNER JAILED
Warning: This article contains details that may be upsetting to some readers.A man responsible for a violent assault that included stabbing, punching, and pouring boiling water on his partner has been sentenced to prison.
Daniel Nash was present with his partner and a friend at the friend’s residence in Alfreton on 13 February when the dispute escalated into violence.
Following an argument, the woman sought refuge in the bathroom, locking herself inside.
Nash forcibly entered by kicking down the door after grabbing a dumbbell.
He then physically assaulted her, punching her multiple times.
Nash instructed his friend, Thomas Osborne, to retrieve a knife and a boiling kettle.
Nash pressed a knife against the woman’s throat and continued to punch her repeatedly.
He poured boiling water on her while she used a coat to protect herself.
Continuing his assault, Nash punched her again and then stabbed her in the leg with a kitchen knife.
He further used bolt croppers, a chain link dog lead, and tried to cut off her fingers with the knife.
In her defense, the woman picked up an axe, but Nash seized it, attempting to cut her fingers off.
She lost consciousness during the attack, prompting Nash to ask Osborne if he had a spade, indicating intent to bury her.
The woman managed to escape, running behind a nearby bin where she was later assisted by a neighbour who took her to the hospital.
When Nash’s mother arrived at the scene after being contacted by the neighbour, Nash assaulted her twice and threw a brick, causing her to fall over a wall.
Nash, who has no fixed address, was arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, along with inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Osborne, aged 32 and from West End, Alfreton, was also detained and faced a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Nash confessed to the charges, and Osborne was convicted after a trial at Derby Crown Court in August.
Both men appeared at the same court for sentencing on 7 October; Nash received a nine-year prison sentence with an additional five-year extension, while Osborne was sentenced to five years in prison.
