DALE PURCHASE FROM PLYMOUTH RECEIVES 10-YEAR SEXUAL HARM PREVENTION ORDER AFTER TAXI INCIDENT
A man from Plymouth, identified as Dale Purchase, has been subjected to a significant legal restriction following a disturbing incident involving a teenage passenger in his taxi.The incident, which occurred on January 12, 2023, involved Purchase making repeated inappropriate and sexualized comments towards the young girl during two separate taxi journeys.
He explicitly asked her to touch his genitals and made sexual advances, actions that have now led to serious legal consequences.
On Monday, December 4, 2023, Purchase, aged 29 and residing on Townshend Avenue in Plymouth, appeared before Plymouth Magistrates Court to face charges related to harassment.
The court proceedings followed his conviction on Friday, November 3, for the harassment incident.
The court heard that Purchase's behavior was not only inappropriate but also deeply troubling, prompting swift legal action.
In response to his actions, the court sentenced Purchase to 18 weeks in prison, a sentence that was suspended for a period of 24 months.
Additionally, he was issued a restraining order that explicitly bans him from making any contact with the victim, emphasizing the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this case.
Sergeant Tom Ottley of the local police force expressed the department’s stance on such incidents, stating, "We take the fear of violence against women and girls very seriously and work tirelessly to ensure we are bringing people to justice while safeguarding victims." He further highlighted that, although this case was not a typical example of harassment, the safety and sense of security for women and girls in society must always be prioritized.
Sergeant Ottley also praised the victim for her cooperation with law enforcement, acknowledging her bravery in engaging with officers during the investigation.
The police have taken additional measures to ensure her protection, including the imposition of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
The Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposes strict restrictions on Purchase, designed to prevent any further offending and to shield vulnerable individuals from harm.
