In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Swindon, Colin Martin Yates, aged 42, has admitted to possessing a collection of highly disturbing child abuse images and extreme pornographic material. The case was heard at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on the 7th of June, where Yates pleaded guilty to charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children, as well as the possession of extreme pornographic content.
Yates, who resides on Basil Close in Swindon, was found in possession of eight indecent images of a child.
Among these, one was classified as Category B, which involves non-penetrative sexual activity, while the remaining seven images fell into Category C, indicating indecent images that do not involve penetration or more severe acts.
Prosecutor Kate Prince clarified during the hearing that no Category A images, which depict penetrative sexual acts, were found in Yates’ possession.
The material also included 18 movies and a single photograph that were classified as extreme pornographic content.
These images and videos depicted acts that could cause serious injury to a person’s anus, breasts, or genitals, highlighting the depraved nature of the material Yates had collected.
The images were located on a mobile phone, and it was revealed that Yates had acquired this material over a period spanning from December 18, 2017, to November 19, 2020.
The details of how the police uncovered this material remain undisclosed.
Following the guilty plea, the case was adjourned to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, which will consider all options for sentencing.
Magistrates issued a stern warning that Yates could face a prison sentence for his crimes.
As part of the legal process, Yates is required to register as a sex offender within 72 hours by reporting to Gablecross Police Station.
He was subsequently released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to return to Swindon Magistrates’ Court on July 11 for further proceedings.
